Inclusion & use of English

In short

KSIM is an inclusive school where every identity, voice, viewpoint and experience is valued. English is the community’s shared language, and students, staff and parents are asked to use it on campus wherever they can. Formal written communication is in English, with bilingual translation for important letters, information and formal contracts.

Inclusion statement

Knightsbridge Schools International Montenegro is a community of diverse cultures, languages and countries of origin, which draws unity through the acknowledgement and celebration of its differences. As a mosaic of individuals who believe everyone should feel safe and respected, the school strives to facilitate opportunities for meaningful engagement with openness and empathy. This process of communication is described as integral to fostering a harmonious place of learning that inspires all members of the community to be all they can be.

KSIM states that it is an inclusive school where students, families, caregivers, teachers and support staff are all supported equally, and where each unique identity, voice, ideological viewpoint and experience is valued. The school honours all members of its community, diverse in:

ability, age, appearance, belief system, citizenship, culture, family structure, gender, gender identity, language, learning style, national origin, political view, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socio-economic level, and all other protected characteristics.

Committed to sustaining an environment free of harassment in any form, including bullying and discrimination, the school maintains that the work of inclusion is a responsibility held by all and done for all, person to person.

Use of English

KSI Montenegro is an international community whose shared language of inclusion is English. To be inclusive of all members of the community, the school expects that all students and staff will use all the English they know — whenever possible — on campus.

The school’s reasoning is that consistent use of English strengthens English competence for all students and promotes the social and linguistic integration of every student. All teachers and staff support students in this effort by being good language models themselves.

Parents are asked to join in the effort whenever possible, by using English on campus.

Written communication

All formal written communication from the school will be in English, with bilingual translation in the case of important letters, information and formal contracts.

This is also why the Family Hub launches in English only — it matches the school’s own operating language.
