Bring your own device (BYOD)

In short

BYODBring Your Own Device — the policy, from Year 3 up, on personal devices at school. applies from Year 3 onwards. With a teacher’s approval, students may use their own device in class for schoolwork. The school takes no responsibility for a device that is lost, loaned, damaged or stolen — that stays with the student.

What BYOD allows

Bring Your Own Device is a policy — from Year 3 onwards — that encourages students at KSI Montenegro to bring and use their own personal electronic devices at school.

With teacher approval, students may use their devices in the classroom to access and save information from the internet, collaborate with other learners, and use apps and productivity tools available to them.

The school’s stated reason is to help students keep up with the demands of the 21st century, and to help them become responsible digital citizens.

What is not allowed

Devices may not be used to disrupt the educational environment or violate the rights of others. Using a device to cheat, violate school conduct rules, harass or bully students or staff, or for unlawful purposes, will subject the student to disciplinary action.

Recording the voice or image of another person in any way that disrupts the educational environment, invades the privacy of others, or is made without the consent of the individuals being recorded, is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, mobile phones, smartwatches, drones and smart glasses.

Cheating using a device is also covered by academic honesty.

Who is responsible for the device

The electronic devices that students bring to school are their sole responsibility. KSI Montenegro assumes no responsibility for personal devices if they are lost, loaned, damaged or stolen.

Students are expected to keep their devices secure at all times and not to loan them to others. At all times, students are expected to exhibit digital responsibility while using technology.

The classroom rule

The teacher has the final say on procedures in the classroom. If a teacher asks a student not to use their device, the student follows that direction. The classroom teacher is the sole authority as to when and how electronic devices may be used in the classroom — what is appropriate in one classroom may not be appropriate in another.
