Responsible use of technology

In short

Strong passwords, kept private. Nothing personal shared online. No connecting with people your child does not know. Photos and recordings only when a teacher approves. No devices in toilets or locker rooms, and none at the table at meal times.

The rules students follow

• Use strong passwords and do not share passwords.
• Keep addresses, phone numbers and other personal information private.
• Do not connect with people you do not know personally.
• Report any inappropriate, upsetting or suspicious information to an adult immediately.
• Photos, videos and voice recordings are to be taken only when directed or approved by the classroom teacher.
• Students must keep their phone silent in class unless otherwise directed.
• Phone calls cannot be made in school, unless with the approval of, and in the presence of, a member of staff.
• Privacy should be respected — use of devices in toilets or locker rooms is unacceptable and is prohibited.
• At meal times, no devices can be used, or be present on tables, in the Common Area or Canteen.
• Head and earphones should not be worn (in or out of ears) when moving around the school, or during meal times.

The teacher decides

The teacher has the final say on procedures in the classroom. If a teacher asks a student not to use their device, the student follows that direction. The classroom teacher is the sole authority as to when and how electronic devices may be used in the classroom, and what is appropriate in one classroom may not be appropriate in another.

Reporting something upsetting

If your child sees something online that worries them, they should tell an adult at once. The school’s safeguarding route is set out in safeguarding & child protection, and cyber-bullying is covered in bullying & harassment.
