Drugs, alcohol & tobacco

In short

No student may be under the influence of, or in possession of, alcohol, tobacco or drugs on campus or at any school event — including students over eighteen. Tobacco is banned for everyone on school property regardless of age. Synthetic cannabinoids such as Snuz and Spice are strictly forbidden and are illegal in Montenegro.

The policy

KSI believes that alcohol and drug abuse are harmful to a student’s positive development and can be very injurious to health.

Alcohol. Even if a student is over eighteen years of age, the school does not allow the consumption of alcohol at school events, on or off site, even within the context of a meal.

On campus and at school events. Students are not permitted to be under the influence of, or in possession of, alcohol, tobacco, narcotic drugs, or other similar substances.

Tobacco. Regardless of age, no person is allowed to use tobacco products on school property, or while attending school sponsored events or field trips.

Smoking. Any student smoking, using or in possession of smoking related items on campus will be accorded a smoking offence. Students are also not permitted to smoke in the immediate vicinity of the school, while in school uniform, or during any school related activities, field trips or excursions, even if they are of a legal age to do so.

Synthetic cannabinoids — Snuz and Spice

Synthetic cannabinoids such as “Snuz” or “Spice” products are strictly forbidden on the school campus, or during any school sponsored event or field trip.

Snuz is also considered an illegal substance in Montenegro, and its use, possession, distribution or sale is prohibited by law.

Consequences

Any student found in possession of, using, distributing, or selling illegal substances such as Snuz within the school premises will face disciplinary action in accordance with school policies. Consequences may include, but are not limited to:

• Suspension or expulsion from school — see the progressive discipline plan
• Referral to law enforcement authorities
• Mandatory participation in counselling or support programmes

Any incidents relating to the inappropriate use by students of alcohol, illegal drugs or tobacco products will be dealt with in accordance with the school discipline process. Possession or use of tobacco, vapes, snuz or spice is a Level 3 behaviour; possession, use or supply of drugs or alcohol is Level 4.

If your child is struggling

The school’s stated position: some students may face challenges or pressures that contribute to substance use. If a student, or someone they know, is struggling with substance abuse or addiction, help and support are available. They can reach out to a trusted teacher, counsellor or school administrator.

The school can also provide information about community resources and support services where a student can seek help confidentially and without judgement.
