ECAExtra-Curricular Activity — the after-school activities programme.s run 14:40–15:30 after school. The programme runs for around 12 to 14 weeks, twice each academic year, with a different range of activities for different year groups each term. Both KSIM teachers and external specialist providers deliver them.

Who runs them

At KSIM, ECAs are described as an integral part of the ethos of the school. They are delivered by both KSIM teaching staff and external specialised providers.

What the programme is for

The school’s stated aims for ECAs are to:

• Develop and encourage experience and expertise in areas that may not be provided for within the formal, written curriculum
• Enhance students’ self-image and social development
• Provide an opportunity for students to represent the school at local, national and international level
• Enhance the ethos and image of the school in the community
• Encourage students’ active participation in a variety of extra-curricular areas
• Encourage, in both sporting and other competitive pursuits, the positive use of leisure time
• Offer valuable opportunities for residential experience in a variety of extra-curricular areas
• Provide opportunities for students to develop their performance skills through dramatic, arts and musical presentations
