Guardianship

In short

If anyone other than you has duty of care for your child, the school needs the legal documents on file — at application, and again if the arrangement changes while your child is enrolled. A signed letter appointing the guardian, with emergency and legal contact details, is required. Students may not be left in the care of a sibling under 18.

What the school needs from you

Parents must inform the school and present legal documents for “in loco parentis” of their children during the application process, or if their guardianship/duty of care status changes whilst enrolled at KSIM.

Parents who leave their children in the care of a guardian must provide a school with a signed letter appointing the guardian and giving all relevant information for both emergency and legal considerations. If teachers become aware that a student is under a different guardianship than usual, the Head of Student Support, Welfare and Inclusion must be notified. If the school is made aware that a change in guardianship has occurred, the Head of Student Support or Pedagogue/Counselor will ensure relevant teachers are notified. Students may not be left in the care of siblings unless siblings are 18 years or older.
